Nurses
No demand is more pronounced than that of nurses. With CGFNS and NCLEX being offered in India, a nursing career in the US has become closer to reality. Unlike any other professionals, nurses enter the US on a Green Card with salaries starting at $40,000 p.a. The UK, Ireland and Australia have similar demands.
Country
- USA
The USA has a shortage of 120,000 which can only be filled by overseas nurses. Indian nurses are eligible and have to pass the CGFNS or NCLEX and IELTS exams which are offered in India. -
UK
NHS, the state-run UK hospitals, private hospitals and nursing homes have a huge demand for nurses. There is no need for an exam. Nurses have to go through a 6 month adaptation program before they can become a licensed nurse. All foreign nurses have to register with the NMC which is the first step towards becoming a nurse in the UK. - Australia
Australia has a demand for nurses too. It involves a 3 month course that should be completed in Australia, before the nurse can begin practicing. The costs of nearly $3200 are actually a good deal which is what most Indian nurses lose paying unscrupulous agents. Nurses who can get 7.0 in IELTS can opt for Australia. - Canada
Though there is a huge demand for nurses, strong unions in Canada have been successful in keeping out foreign nurses. The Registration exam is offered inside Canada only.
- Ireland
The nurse shortfall is expected to continue in Ireland. Foreign nurses are required to undergo a 6 week orientation program in approved hospitals and nursing homes in Ireland. To practice nursing, all nurses have to register with Al Tranais, the Irish nursing board.
