Overview
The points-based system was introduced for highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs, investors and foreign students wanting to work in the UK. Under the Tier 1 Post Study Work visa, foreign students graduating from a university in the United Kingdom can apply to stay in the UK to work, on completion of their studies. The visa is issued for a period of 2 years and cannot be extended; however, applicants can transfer to another visa category.
The Post Study visa replaces the International Graduates Scheme (IGS) and the Fresh Talent Working in Scotland Scheme and encourages students to remain in the UK. It is a transitional route for highly skilled students to gain UK experience and or earnings to switch into another Tier 1 visa category of the points-based system or the Tier 2.
Post Study visa holders can take up employment anywhere in the UK, without the need for a sponsor for the length of their stay. It is a points-based system and applicants should satisfy the requirements of UK qualification, study at a United Kingdom institution, visa status during UK study and/or research, award of the qualification, English language and maintenance funds.
Basic Features of the Post Study Work Visa:
- Allows international students who studied in the UK to stay back & work without the need for sponsorship.
- Successful applicants can live and work in the UK for a period of 2 years.
- PSW visa holders can transfer into any other Tier 1 or Tier 2 visa category, at any time.
- Dependents can be included in the application
- Dependents too can work or study in the UK without restrictions
- Process time 3 weeks
